Balangay is an NGO that operates across Australia and the ASEAN. We believe that every person deserves a life of dignity where they are empowered and enabled to achieve sustainable livelihoods and safe environments where their families can grow and thrive. We care about the primary producers of the Philippines and support them through a variety of projects that range from agribusiness, education, energy, investment and trade. Our efforts are targeted to achieve:

OUR APPROACH

Partnering with likeminded organisations to maximise impact and outreach we embrace an integrated value chain approach where we work directly with the primary producers from the input stage through production and go-to-market.

Providing technologies to optimise the development and delivery of products.

Upskilling programs to enable uptake of new technologies and encourage a sense of entrepreneurship.

Financial

Provision of Hand-Up funds to augment financial security for producers in the event of an unforeseen circumstance.

Connecting producers to consumers globally to ensure a fair price for their products.

Our HandUp approach means that our projects not only provide the much needed resources for optimal crop production but also critical infrastructure to ensure optimal returns for the country's primary producers.

Our projects are offered in 3 stages:

Stage 1 Augmenting the Philippines high value crops industry

Agriculture, forestry, and fishing contribute approximately 10 per cent of the Philippines' GDP however only 1.6 per cent of the country's national budget is allocated to the sector. With millions of livelihoods dependent on these industries, it is important to Balangay Philippines that our initiatives are targeted to provide the best returns for primary producers.

The Philippines has comparative advantages in certain high value crops that have export potential and the ability to provide farmers with higher incomes and more resilient financial futures.

Stage 2 Establishing ancillary services

A strong backup of ancillary services is critical to the success of most primary production endeavours. At Balangay Philippines, this is no exception. To ensure the best outcomes of our farmers' efforts, it is vital for them to have unhindered access to resources that will provide them with both technology and know-how to optimise crop yield and nutrient content.

Our Mission is to develop an integrated system that will provide ongoing support to the farmers through:

Transfer of technology to Philippines' research and training organisations.
Development of local companies to provide support services to farmers.
Assist farmers to find investors for their projects.

Stage 3 Bringing premium quality products to the global market

The ability to produce consistent premium products demonstrates a country's capability as a world class supplier. Balangay Philippines will work with local talent to develop a differentiating product that reflects unique Filipino craftmanship and quality.

To demonstrate this capability we will focus on:

Securing and imparting world class expertise to local producers.
Provision of leading infrastructure and support frameworks to meet production requirements.
Assistance with export to bring world class Philippine products to the global market.
